A huge traffic jam was today witnessed on the Ferozepur road due to the ongoing Kisan Mela at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Pashu Palan Mela at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). This is not the first time that the traffic police have failed to manage traffic on the stretch during these events.

Farmers in large numbers visit the venues, some on tractor-trailers and the others on cars.

It was learnt that farmers have installed stalls on the road near Gate No. 2 of the PAU, which was also one of the causes of traffic jam. Haphazard parking on both sides of the Ferozepur road aggravated the problem.

Not only ambulances but vehicles carrying bodies were also seen stuck in the traffic jam. Although traffic policemen in large numbers were deployed on the stretch, they were unable to regulate the traffic.

Surinder Singh, a biker, said it took him over one and a half hours to reach his shop at Clock Tower from Baddowal in the morning. Otherwise, it takes only 20 minutes to reach the shop, he added.

Another biker, Amit Taneja, who was also stuck in the traffic jam, alleged that the tow-away vans, which were generally seen removing wrongly parked vehicles on the road, were not stationed on the stretch today.
