Ludhiana: A five-day training programme on 'Analysis and Design of RC buildings: Concepts and Practice' started at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College. The course is being conducted by the Civil Engineering Department of the college, under the Quality Improvement Programme of the AICTE, to develop the necessary structural design skills in the faculty and research scholars participating in the training programme. Head of the Department, Professor KS Gill, extended a warm welcome to the delegates and briefed the audience about the programme and other associated activities. Faculty coordinator Dr Harvinder Singh said the course aimed at upgrading the skills of the participants to come up with better structural systems and help the local community build better and sustainable houses. On the first day of the course, experts apprised the participants of new developments in the geotechnical investigations. More than 35 participants from academia and practicing structure engineers are attending this course.
Lecture on space elevator
An extension lecture was organised by the PG Department of Physics of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, on 'Space Elevator-The Next Frontier' by resource person Dr RK Seth, Head, Department of Physics, DAV University, Jalandhar. Prof Inderjit Singh, Head, Department of Physics, and other faculty of the department welcome Dr RK Seth. Seth explored the benefits of space elevator over rockets. He said space elevator would not produce any junk in space and was a cheaper technology. TNS
Farewell party organised
Guru Gobind Singh Public School Pakhowal Road, DAAD, bid adieu with great enthusiasm to the outgoing students of Class XII batch. A fiesta was devoted to the years spent together with friends and teachers to reminisce joyous moments. The release of colorful balloons by Class XII graders marked the beginning of the function. The programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr Manjit Kaur Makkar the principal-cum-director, who lauded the batch as being one of the brightest. She appreciated the efforts of the students for enthusiastically participating in varied competitions and raising the bar of perfection. She wished them good-luck to make a mark in the world outside. On this momentous occasion, the school flag was handed over by the Head Council of XII Students to the Head Council of XI students. This was followed by the distribution of souvenir. The highlight of the function was a beautiful cultural presentation. They were titled as Mr and Miss GGSPS. TNS
