Tributes paid to Prof Mohan Singh

Mandi Ahmedgarh, October 20

Organisers and participants of the 40th Prof Mohan Singh Mela mourn the Amritsar train tragedy besides paying tributes to Prof Mohan Singh, late Jagdev Singh Jassowal and former principal of the host college Hardiljit Singh Gosal.

Prof Mohan Singh Foundation patron Jagpal Singh Khangura inaugurated the event and Balvir Singh Grewal was the chief guest during the opening session held at Gobind National College Narangwal near here on Saturday.

The event was commenced with a seminar on ‘crisis and probable solutions of the modern agriculture.’

Terming the issue as multidimensional, a majority of speakers advocated the rational use of inputs of agriculture to minimise the side effects and increase the quality and quantity of farm produce. Former director Dr Sucha Singh Gill presided over the seminar.

Khangura said the seminar had been organised with the intent to spread awareness about various aspects of modern agriculture among masses, especially farmers.

The organisers felicitated outstanding performers in various fields, including literature, administration and agricultural science. Foundation president Pargat Singh Grewal, Gurpreet Singh Toor, Commissioner (Food and Drug) Kahan Singh Pannu, CT University Registrar Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Dr Deepak Manmohan, senior fellow, Punjabi University, Patiala; Inderjit Singh Jassowal, Gurnam Singh Dhaliwal, Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura, Director, Youth Welfare, Punjab University, Chandigarh; Principal, Avinash Kaur, and Paramjit Kaur were among those felicitated on the occasion.

A special tree plantation drive was launched by Sant Sewa Singh Khadur Sahib Wale on the occasion.
