Truck drags man to death

Ludhiana, September 1

A 55-year-old man died after a speeding truck crushed him on the Noorwala Road today.

The deceased has been identified as Om Shankar Sharma, a resident of Bajwa Nagar. The truck driver fled from the spot immediately after the accident. Gaurav, son of the deceased, told the police that his father was working at a factory located on Noorwala Road.

“My father left for the factory on his scooter. He stopped his scooter due to sudden rain and stood on the side of the road. Unaware of the speeding truck coming towards him, he met with the tragedy. The truck dragged him on the road. Due to severe head injuries, he died on the spot. The truck driver instead of taking my father to the hospital fled from the spot,” he told the police.

Even several eye-witnesses alleged that the truck was being driven at a high speed and it crushed the man standing on the side of the road.

Station House Officer, Basti Jodhewal police station, Jasbinder Singh said a case under Section 304 A of the IPC was registered against the truck driver and raids were on to arrest him. The truck was impounded by the police.

Hit by car, year-and-a-half-old boy dies 

A one-and-a-half-year-old boy died after he was allegedly hit a speeding commercial vehicle (chota hathi) in Dhillon Colony last night. The deceased has been identified as Aprit, son of Dharminder, a vegetable vendor. Deceased’s father said his son was playing outside the house, when a speeding vehicle hit him. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he succumbed today. The driver of the vehicle was nabbed by the area residents and was handed over to the police. A case under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the driver of the commercial vehicle. 

Man dies after touching telephone pole

Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Lakshami Colony, died due to electrocution after he came in contact with some telephone pole in New Modopuri area today. Bhupinder was working at a factory. He was heading towards the factory on his scooter when in order to save himself from the water puddles, he held a telephone pole tightly and received severe electric shock. He died on the spot. - TNS
