Private bus operators plying buses on various routs from Ludhiana bus stand have hired the services of unauthorised hawkers. A large number of unauthorised hawkers remain present at the bus stand and outside and a majority of them are hired by private bus operators, who ply luxury buses to various routes from outside the bus stand. During late evening hours, such hawkers are often spotted outside the bus stand calling passengers to board buses.

According to sources, these hawkers are hired by private bus operators on commission basis in violation of norms. Moreover, unauthorised hawkers also misguide passengers. Uneducated passengers and people, who are new to the city, often fall prey to such hawkers.

“Hawkers hired by private bus operators often misguide passengers. Most of the private buses plying between Ludhiana and Mohali only travel up to Mohali and hawkers tell passengers that the bus would go to Chandigarh. When the bus reaches Mohali bus stand, the bus operators ask passengers to board other buses going to Chandigarh,” informed a source familiar with this practice.

Bus Stand Superintendant Daleep Singh said there was no unauthorised hawker at the bus stand. “We do not allow any unauthorised hawkers to enter the bus stand. I am not aware whether any private bus operator has hired hawkers,” he said.
