Two days after a 21-year-old female staff member of Vardhman Mills, Ludhiana, died off some ailment, other staff members of the organization staged a protest against the mill administration today.
The protesters raised slogans for failing to provide basic facilities to the staff.
The protesters said a female staff member was suffering from some ailment for the past some days.
According to the protesters, Babita, a native of Himachal Pradesh, used to live in the mill hostel. Despite her poor health, the Management did not sanction her leave on time due to which she lost her life.
Claiming that the employees are provided poor quality food by the management, the protesters demanded better facilities and good food.
The protesters ended the protest after the administration assured them of meeting their demands.
Dinesh Sindhwani, Director, Corporate Services, Vardhman Mills, said the female staffer Babita was suffering from diarrhoea.
“Babita applied for leave on Thursday and we granted it on that very day, following which she went to her village in Himachal Pradesh. She died at her house on Saturday,” said Dinesh Sindhwani.
He added that he would get the quality of the food checked.
Focal Point SHO Davinder Kumar said the police force was deployed in the mill to avert any toward incident during the protest.
“The female staff member of the mill died due to some ailment and there was no need to take any kind of action,” the SHO said. — TNS
