Vehicle lifters’ gang busted

Ludhiana: The division no. 5 police have busted a gang of vehicle lifters by arresting four of its members. They have also recovered four two-wheelers and a mobile phone from them. ACP, Civil Lines, Sartaj Singh and Inspector Jatinder Singh conducted a press conference on Saturday. The SHO said the police have arrested the suspect identified as Sandeep Kumar of Sundar colony and Ranjit Kumar of Kot Mangal Singh and recovered a Honda Activa from them. They had stolen this scooter last month from the city, in which a case of theft was also registered. He said the accused had put a fake number plate on the scooter to dodge the police. In another case, SHO Jatinder said two vehicle lifters — Harman Singh, alias Ham, of New Janta Nagar, and Gora Singh, of Gill village, were arrested. The police recovered a motorcycle and one Jupiter scooter from them, which they had stolen recently. TNS

Lifer in murder case

Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh convicted Sukhvir Singh of Mansuran village on the charge of murdering Rajinder Singh of Tusse village. He was ordered to undergo rigorous life imprisonment. A fine of Rs10,000 was also imposed on him. A case against him was registered on May 3 at Jodhan police station after the statement of Harbans Kaur, mother of the victim. She said her son was a driver and working in Ludhiana. On the fateful day, she along with her son were returning from Ludhiana and when they reached at Jodhan bus stop, the accused, who came on a motorcycle, started abusing her son due to previous dispute. Thereafter, he attacked him with a kirpan. He inflicted several injuries on his head and other body parts. The accused fled after she raised an alarm. She got her son admitted to Civil Hospital Ludhiana, but he died. The accused pleaded innocence, but the court found him guilty. OC

Tutor booked for harassment

The police have booked a typing tutor on the charge of sexual harassment. He allegedly attempted to harass his 18-year-old student, who was attending his classes. The accused has been identified as Sharanjit Singh of BRS Nagar. He is yet to be arrested. Complainant, a resident of Haibowal, told the police that the accused was her father’s friend, due to which her father admitted her to his class. On December 6, when she went to attend the class, the accused proposed her for marriage and touched her inappropriately. The girl later revealed everything to her parents, following which a case was registered under Section 354-A of the IPC.— TNS
