Ludhiana, May 2
The academic council of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has decided to introduce some major reforms in the process for admission to their various undergraduate programmes. The primary focus is to simplify admission to the undergraduate programmes of bachelor of fisheries science, BTech (biotechnology) and BTech (dairy technology).
The criteria of clearing an entrance test for admission to these courses has been removed henceforth. Admissions will now be made on merit. Only the marks obtained in the qualifying examination of 10+2 from any recognised Indian board will be taken into consideration. Besides, the number of seats in all these programmes have also been increased.
The second major reform is the revision of the eligibility criteria for admission to the BTech (dairy tech) and BFSc programmes. Now the candidates from both Medical and Non-Medical streams will be eligible to get admission in BFSc, BTech (dairy tech) and BTech (biotech) courses. Any candidate will also be eligible to contest for admission in these courses with only one application. Special courses will be offered to the students to make up for their deficiency, if any.
The university has reformed the admission and tuition fee for these courses as well. Registrar Dr S Prabhakar informed that GADVASU was ranked No1 as the State Agricultural University in 2018 by the ICAR and all its constituent institutes/colleges have been accredited with the ICAR as well. He asserted that these courses of GADVASU were highly prestigious and offered great job opportunities. The university has opened seats for these courses to candidates from other states also. He also stated that admission to BVSc and AH courses will continue to be through an entrance test for which the last date to apply online is May 23.
Dr Prabhakar added: “All academic programmes at GADVASU have been recognised at the national-level with students seeking queries from across the country and even abroad. NRIs too prefer to send their wards to GADVASU for education in veterinary science courses because of the training which students receive to clear professional examinations in the US and Canada.”
