The Vigilance officials were also accompanied by officials of the dairy and health departments. The team conducted a check at the laboratories in the plant and collected samples of milk.

Sources said the dairy and health departments would not check the samples to verify the fat level. Samples of all kinds of packaged milk were collected.

The team spent ample time inside the plant. However, they did not entertain any media queries.

It was learnt that a similar raid was also conducted at the Mohali plant of Verka. The raid continued till late evening.

According to the sources, raids are the outcome of allegations made by LIP MLA Simarjit Singh Bains, who barged into the plant along with his supporters and collected milk samples. He alleged that the Verka plant management was not supplying milk as per the fat level mentioned on packets, thus committing a Rs 200-crore scam. He had demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.

Later, the MLA was booked on the charges of trespassing and misbehaving with the officials of the plant.
