The Volvo bus service started by the Punjab Roadways for Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, has received a mixed response from passengers. The service was started on July 27. Initially, the number of passengers using the service was low.

In fact, the roadways has been plying two Volvo buses, one to Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, and another to Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), New Delhi. Though the bus meant for the ISBT has been an instant hit, the number of passengers using the airport bus service is yet to pick up.

It was learnt that the roadways planned to start a few more buses to New Delhi airport in near future. The roadways has also provided the facility of online booking of seats in these Volvo buses. The bus begins its journey from Ludhiana bus stand and drops passengers near Terminal-3 of New Delhi International Airport.

Earlier, there was no bus service from Ludhiana bus stand to New Delhi airport. Though there are five Volvo buses being operated by the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) from different cities to New Delhi airport. Passengers have to board the PRTC buses from Sherpur Chowk because these do not visit bus stand.

The Punjab Roadways authorities believe the number of passengers would increase as more people come to know about the service. “In the beginning, the number of passengers was low in the Volvo bus bound for New Delhi airport. But now, the number is increasing. We expect more passengers once more and more people come to know about the service,” says Ludhiana Bus Stand Superintendent Daleep Singh.
