Amid growing concerns over falling ground water level, leaking taps at the Ludhiana railway station have failed to wake up authority concerned from their deep slumber.

On the one hand, activists have been constantly holding campaigns to save underground water, and on the other, hundreds of litres of water is being wasted on daily basis at the railway station.

According to sources, taps have been damaged by anti-social elements. If authorities were to be blamed for not reparing taps, passengers too, fail to close taps, despite noticing that water gets wasted.

“There are numerous leaking taps at different platforms. Water keeps flowing from these taps. However, authorities concerned seem to be least concerned. These taps are neither replaced nor repaired for a long of time,” said Kamal Verma, a frequent traveller.

“Ground water level has been falling at an alarming pace. If we continue to waste water like this, lives of coming generations are going to be very tough. We should save as much water as we can,” said Milan Singh, a social activist.

Ludhiana railway station Director Abhinav Singla said the railway station authorities keep checking taps on regular basis. He assured that if any tap was found leaking, it would be repaired.
