Ludhiana, November 8

Defence lawyers today continued with the cross-examination of the prime prosecution witness, who was present at the time of alleged gang rape of victim near Issewal village. However, it could not be concluded.

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Rashmi Sharma adjourned hearing till November 16 for continuing cross-examination of the witness. The victim’s cross-examination concluded on October 19.

The girl was allegedly gang-raped on February 9 near Issewal village on the banks of Sidhwan Canal, about 15 km from Ludhiana. She was in a car with her friend when the assailants dragged her out of the car and raped her.

The charges were framed in the case on May 6. The police had filed the charge sheet based on a scientific investigation supported by 54 witnesses.

The accused, including Sadiq Ali of Mukandpur, Nawanshahr; Jagroop Singh, alias Rupi, of Jaspal Bangar village; Surmo of Khanpur village, Dehlon; Saif Ali of Dehlon and Ajay, alias Lalan, of Jassad Paddi village were present at the hearing.
