Women and Safety at GNKCW
Ludhiana: The Legal Literacy club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, organised an extension lecture on “Crime against women and safety” by Shweta Dhand, Assistant Professor, GHG Law Institute, Sidhwan Khurd. She laid emphasis on the issues and challenges such as domestic violence, acid attacks, rape and sexual harassment faced by women.
Book reading session
A book reading session of Nomita Khanna’s book, Rose’s Bent Stem, was organised at Bajaj College. The book is ranked 4th in the Amazon best sellers crime fiction list. The story revolves around protagonist Tana, who is a nurse, and the untoward events that happen in her life. She said her aim for the reading session was to inculcate reading habits amongst students and motivate budding writers.
Eco-friendly crafts exhibition
An eco-friendly crafts exhibition was organised at Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women by the home science and fine arts department of the college to promote eco-friendly crafts. Students displayed hand-made jute bags and scarves dyed with natural dyes. Principal Kirandeep Kaur inaugurated the exhibition.
Seminar on ‘disciplined life’
A seminar on “How to do well in life?” by retired Brigadier PD Tiwari was organised at the Government College for Girls. He motivated students to lead a disciplined and ambitious life by sharing his life experiences. He taught students the mantras of success and introduced his book “Swasth Rahe Har Insaan, Sab Ke Chehre Par Muskaan”. Principal Manju Sahni expressed her gratitude to conduct the seminar.
KCW shines at PU youth fest
The giddha team of the Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, has brought laurels to the college by securing second position in the Panjab University inter-zonal youth and heritage festival held at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha. The individual first prize was clinched by Sukhpreet Kaur. She also won first individual prize in the zonal youth festival held at Sant Baba Bhag Singh Memorial Girls College, Sukhanand, from October 24 to 26. Giddha in-charge Prof Gagandeep Dharni congratulated the team.
Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights
A seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights” (IPR) was organised at Desh Bhagat University with the support of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). IPR scientist Rahul Taneja and deputy director Nahid Alam, ASSOCHAM, were the guest speakers. An MoU was also signed between Desh Bhagat University and ASSOCHAM. Taneja informed students about rights and laws related to the subject and gave detailed information by linking different topics to industrial units. Alam said ASSOCHAM formulated policies to solve problems between the government and the industry.
Photography competition
The communication centre of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a photography competition as part of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. Students from various colleges exhibited their photography skills on the “Balhari Kudrat Vasia”. An exhibition of the photographs clicked by the participants was also put up at PAU. TNS
