Macadamisation work under Vigilance radar
Srinagar, July 4
The ongoing macadamisation work of the Roads and Buildings Department has come under the Vigilance Organisation radar.
A spokesman today said a joint raid was conducted by the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir, on the basis of inputs on “substandard” macadamisation, semi-dense and wet mix being done by PWD ( R&B) Kashmir.
“Five different teams were constituted and a check was conducted at plant locations in Lasjan Pampore, Khadermuh Pampore, Mirbazar Anantnag, Kunzer Tangmarg and Kupwara. Nineteen macadam plants were checked and it was found that different bitumen percentage was being adopted by the plant holders, ranging from 4.7 per cent to 5.5 per cent,” he said.
“The aggregates being used were not in consonance with the standard relevant code... Further, none among the PWD staff was found available during batching and mixing at the macadam plants for maintaining quality control and adherence to codal provisions. Thus no quality control was found during the checks,” the spokesman said. — TNS
