This year the main Republic Day function will be held at Amar Singh College in Srinagar because of the ongoing renovation at Bakshi Stadium.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan said this while chairing a meeting to review arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations here.

The Divisional Commissioner said three Pawan Hans helicopters would be used to shower petals at the venue, besides carry out an aerial survey.

The Roads and Buildings Department has been asked to devise a layout plan for the pavilion-type VIP stand, besides make a seating arrangement for 5,000 people on the Amar Singh College ground.

The meeting discussed arrangements, including security in and outside the venue, supply of power and water, medicare, parking and transportation facilities, sanitation, seating and heating arrangements, public address system and fire-fighting measures.

The Divisional Commissioner directed the security officers to ensure foolproof security in and around the venue and along the roads leading to Amar Singh College.

The meeting was informed that the R-Day celebrations would start with Shehnai Vadan. The chief guest will unfurl the Tricolour and take the salute at the march-past.

The contingents of the CRPF, ITBP, J&K Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Home Guard, NCC cadets and schoolstudents will participate in the march-past.
