Militants kill special police officer in Shopian district

Srinagar, August 22

Militants killed a special police officer (SPO) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.

SPO Fayaz Ahmad was shot at in Zazripora village.

“He was shifted to hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival,” the police said.

SPOs are engaged on a fixed monthly emolument by police to fight insurgency. In most cases, the SPOs are not trained in handling firearms. IANS

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
