Chandigarh, May 30

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday suffered a faux pas during his meeting with Angela Merkel — similar to the one in 2015 — when he went for a handshake with the German Chancellor but she had something else on her mind.

However, later it turned out that Chancellor Merkel was guiding PM Modi towards a spot designated for a photo-op in front of the flags of the two countries and EU.

A déjà vu of sorts two years apart had twitter in splits, with many giving hilarious reactions.

During his Germany halt as part of the four-nation tour, PM Modi and Chancellor Merkel issued a joint statement vowing to take “strong measures” against those who encourage, support and finance terrorism.

At the end of his statement, PM Modi turned towards Merkel, his arm extended for a handshake, but Chancellor Merkel was seen guiding him towards a spot in front of the flags.

A similar scene had played out in April 2015 during Modi’s first official visit to Germany. It sparked a huge online debate at the time with many questioning if the Indian PM had been “snubbed”.
