Candidates filed nomination papers at Mussoorie Post Graduate (MPG) College amid beating of drums and much fanfare for the student union elections here today. The elections will be held on September 3. Over 20 students filed nominations.

Three candidates, namely Deepak Singh, Ashish Rawat and Neeraj Singh, from the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) filed their nomination for the post of college president due to lack of consensus between various factions. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP) fielded only one candidate Abhilash Rana for the president post.

For the post of vice-president, Deepak Banswal from the NSUI, Jagvir Singh from the Aryan Group, Sohan Singh Kandari from the ABVP filed their nominations.

For the post of general secretary, four candidates are in fray, namely Jagvir Singh from the Aryan Group, Ramesh Singh from the Jaunpur Group, Rohit Singh from the NSUI and Mukesh (UKD supported). ABVP’s Usha Dalia and NSUI’s Sonali Bhatt are in fray for the post of joint secretary.

ABVP’s Deepak Panwar and NSUI’s Mukesh are aspirants for the university representative position. ABVP’s Abhinav Chand and NSUI’s Ritu Chauhan are vying the post of treasurer. Anuradha Naithani from the ABVP and Pooja from the NSUI filed their nominations for the post of girls’ representatives. Kiran, Poornima Rawat, Anjali Shah, Bharti Runchela and Sanjay Kumar will contest the poll for the post of executive members. Dr Sudhir Gairola has been made the election officer.

Meanwhile, students held a procession on the Mall Road while going to file nomination papers. Posters and banners were also pasted on the college campus as well as on the Mall Road.
