13-year-old gangraped, burnt to death

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and burnt to death at Lalung village of Batadrawa in Nagaon district of central Assam on Friday. Enraged, local people attacked the residence of Zakir Hussain, prime accused in the case, on Saturday.

Hussain and four others committed the crime when the girl, a Class-V student, was alone at home after coming back from school. The girl died of severe burn injuries in Guwahati Medical College Hospital here on Saturday. The situation turned tense when the police, which have already arrested two accused, failed to nab Hussain.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Mrinal Kumar Saikia alleged, “It was a planned crime executed by Bangladeshi immigrant Muslims in the state who have become a major threat to society here.” — TNS
