24 Pakistani spies arrested this year

The government today informed the Lok Sabha that security agencies had apprehend 24 ISI agents spying for Pakistan in India so far this year.
Replying to a question, Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said, “In addition to these 24 agents, a Pakistani spy agent, caught in October 2016, was intelligence officer Mehmood Akhtar, who was posted at the Pakistan High Commission here.”
Nine of the arrests were made in Rajasthan, six in Punjab, four in Delhi, two each in Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir and one in Uttar Pradesh.
Ahir said some of the staff members posted at the Pakistan High Commission were suspected to be involved in espionage network. The official who was apprehended by the Delhi Police for spying was consequently declared persona-non-grata by the Indian authorities.
“The Government is taking adequate steps to counter such incidents in future. The Government is resolutely committed to take all necessary steps to ensure the security of the nation and the safety of our citizens,” the minister added.
