Exuding confidence that the BJP would do an encore winning all seven parliamentary seats from Delhi, the sitting BJP MP from East Delhi, Maheish Girri, on Friday said the AAP and its possible alliance with the Congress were no match for the BJP.
A former international director of the Art of Living Foundation, Girri said: “I have served the people of my constituency in all earnestness and worked for its holistic growth.”
He was a political novice when the BJP handpicked him to contest in the last general election in its bid to mop up as many seats as possible under the charisma of Narendra Modi.
The BJP had won all seven parliamentary seats in Delhi.
Girri talked about some of the projects completed and initiated in the past five years. These include creation of 150 open gymnasia, giving a facelift to Sanjay lakel, CCTVs at all important points, and widening of various roads.
The AAP has fielded its Political Affairs Committee member Atishi Marlena. There is uncertainty on its alliance with the Congress in Delhi, and it possibly re-visiting its strategy, including withdrawal of nominees on some seats in the eventuality of an alliance.
The AAP has already announced names of its candidates on six seats. Marlena has already begun her campaign.
However, Girri dismissed the challenge from the AAP nominee. She is merely introducing herself in schools,” Girri said, adding that the BJP would mount its campaign shortly after the nominees were announced.
Girri had shot into limelight as he wrested the seat from sitting Congress MP Sanjay Dikshit, son of Sheila Dikshit. He had defeated his nearest rival, AAP nominee Rajmohan Gandhi, by over 1.9 lakh votes.
He said the campaign would revolve around Modi and the development work accomplished by the Union government. Its national manifesto would be supplemented by adding a section on Delhi, he added.
