As the government has set in motion the process of privatising national carrier Air India, indications are there that the new owner of the airlines will have the right over the master brand and logos associated with it including iconic ‘Maharaja.’

Sources privy to the process of finalising details of the disinvestment, however, indicated that 12 sub-brands of the airlines, including Air India Express, the profitable low-fare carrier, may not be sold with the flagship Air India. But, as the proposal is being finalised, the new owner of the national carrier will have exclusive right over the “master brand” and “iconic logo Maharaja”, which will then not be available to the unsold subsidiaries, they said.
