Alok Nath fails to get court relief

Veteran actor Alok Nath, accused by film-maker Vinta Nanda of sexually assaulting her 19 years ago, on Friday failed to get a court order stopping the latter from speaking to the media.

Nath, through his wife Ashu Singh, had moved the City Civil Court here seeking a restraining order against Vinta from making further statements about her claim to online, print and television media. Nanda’s advocate Dhruti Kapadia said in a statement that the court had refused to grant any interim relief to the plaintiff who had sought an injunction against her client. The matter will come up for hearing before the court in due course, Kapadia said.

Sessions Judge SU Baghele noted that neither Singh nor Nath appeared to have been defamed by Nanda’s Facebook post on October 8. Both of them had filed a defamation suit against Nanda seeking damages of Re 1 in addition to a gag order. Though Nath was named in the Facebook post, the reference to a ‘Sanskari’ actor led to fingers being pointed out to the actor.

Subsequently, Nanda filed a criminal complaint against Nath. Advocate Ashok Saraogi, who represented Nath and Singh, earlier told the court that Nanda had made up the story of being raped in order to gain publicity. He also wanted to know why Nanda kept quiet for nearly two decades and did not even approach the police, but chose to write about the incident on Facebook at this stage.
