'Falhari baba', a self-styled godman of Alwar, who was in judicial custody for about a year, was on Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1 lakh in a rape case of 21-year-old girl.

Additional District Sessions judge Rajendra Sharma who completed the case hearing under Sections 376 (2F) and 506 of IPC for rape and criminal intimidation against  Kaushlendra Prapancharya alias 'Falahari Maharaj' announced the judgement this afternoon, baba's lawyer Ashok Kumar Sharma told The Tribune.

Under Section 506 of IPC, the court announced one-year imprisonment and fine of Rs 1,000.

The 60-year-old godman was convicted for rape and criminal intimidation as claimed by the family of the victim of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, last year. Baba was in judicial custody since September 23, 2017. A zero FIR was lodged in Bilaspur and the case was transferred to Aravali Vihar police station in Alwar.

The rape survivor said she had visited Divya Dham Ashram of the godman on August 7, 2017. She offered her first salary from the internship to the godman who asked her to stay for the night where she was raped by him. 

Baba's lawyer said he would move the higher court soon.
