Ambani, Tata Sons promise big investments in Assam

The Chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani on Saturday pledged to invest Rs 2,500 crore through Reliance Jio in Assam while stating that Reliance has already become one of the largest investors in Assam by investing Rs 5,000 crore in the state.

Making the promise in presence of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi at the inauguration of Advantage Assam— global investment summit, here today, the chairman of Reliance industries described Assam as a state full of potential which has a history of flourishing economy and highest per capita income in the country in early 1950s.

He said Reliance Jio would soon open its offices in all district headquarters in Assam where proportion of Jio users was higher than any other state in the country. He said Reliance Jio aimed to invest Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the next 18 months in India to make its people digitally well connected and connectivity holds key to economic development and growth.

Mentioning about the huge potential of Assam in travel and tourism sector, Ambani informed that Reliance Foundation would tie up with Government of Assam to set up a training centre on wildlife tourism and eco-tourism in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the global investment summit organised by Assam government, chairman of Tata Sons, K Chandrasekaran promised that Tata Sons would invest one billion dollar in Assam in next two years to touch the lives of two million people in Assam. He highlighted age-old association of Tata groups entities with Assam in different sectors including tea, consultancy, engineering, healthcare, livelihood etc.

The Tata Group signed a MoU with Assam government to launch a statewide cancer care programme covering 15 district of the state with an aim to take affordable cancer care close to the door steps of people of Assam.

The CMD of Spice Jet, Ajoy Singh disclosed the plan of the airline which have good presence in the region, to use Guwahati International airport as a gateway to ASEAN countries and introduce sea planes in this land of Brahmaputra River and its numerous tributaries to promote tourism and provide employment avenues to local youth.
