Army ex-Vice Chief joins BJP
New Delhi: Former Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Sarath Chand (retd) joined the BJP in the presence of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Lt Gen Chand was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in June 1979 and retired as Vice Chief of Indian Army on June 1 last year. He has been in active combat leadership roles at every stage of command in the Army. "In today's global scenario, the country needs a strong leadership. I was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, that's why I am joining BJP," he said. The BJP had done a lot for soldiers, he added. TNS
Jaipur princess gets BJP ticket from Rajsamand
Jaipur: The BJP on Saturday fulfilled the desire of ex-CM Vasundhara Raje by fielding Jaipur princess Diya Kumari from Rajsamand LS seat. The seat goes to the polls on April 26. The party is placing its bet on its core vote bank, Rajputs and Rawats (a sub-caste of Rajputs), as all eight Assembly segments of Rajsamand were won by it in 2013. Diya will take on Congress’ Devkinandan Gurjar. OC
Nath, son to file bypoll, LS nominations on April 9
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath and his son Nakul will file their nominations together on April 9 for the Assembly bypoll and LS elections in Chhindwara. Nath has represented Chhindwara nine times. The father-son duo would lead a procession in an open vehicle from Shyam Talkies area on April 9 to file their nominations. PTI
