Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan’s sister Nikhat Aflaq, a retired teacher, was today detained by the Rampur police. Sources said Nikhat has been kept at the Ganj police station.
“Nikhat was having lunch at her house when two women constables came and took her away. She is a senior citizen — over 70 years old — and does not keep well. We were not told the reason for her arrest or detention,” his sister Nasreen said.
Rampur Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said: “Nikhat Aflaq is the treasurer of the Jauhar Trust and we needed to question her about the complaints filed by farmers about land grabbing by Azam Khan. We are taking care of all human rights and only want information from her.”
