The Bihar Government is likely to move the Supreme Court to contest bail granted to RJD strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin.
“This has been an established process followed by the Nitish Kumar government in 11 years that if the state is not satisfied with the bail of somebody, it goes in appeal in higher court,” JD-U spokesman Ajay Alok said. “It has been done in the past and would be followed in the case of Shahabuddin too,” he said.
After 11 years of jail, Shahabuddin walked out of the Bhagalpur jail on Saturday as he was granted bail by the Patna High Court. Shahabuddin’s description of Nitish Kumar as “Chief Minister of circumstances” after his release from the jail has created ripples in political circles.
On Shahabuddin’s remarks, RJD chief Lalu Prasad said: “What’s wrong in Shahabuddin’s statement, though Nitish Kumar is a leader of the grand alliance”.
Bihar Congress chief and Education minister Ashok Chaudhary slammed the RJD, saying that it should quit the government if it is not satisfied with it.
Meanwhile, Siwan Superintendent of Police Saurabh Shah said the district police were scrutinising if any condition of the bail had been violated in the case of Shahabuddin, a former RJD MP.
“If any evidence comes to the surface indicating violation of condition of bail, we will move for cancellation of bail in the case,” the SP said.
