Ajay Bisaria has been appointed the next High Commissioner of India to Pakistan. A 1987-batch IFS officer, Bisaria has been India’s ambassador to Poland With concurrent charge of Lithuania since January 2015. Bisaria replaces Gautam Bambawale in Islamabad following the latter’s posting to Beijing as the new Indian ambassador.
A career diplomat, Bisaria was a student of economics and pursued Master’s in public policy from Princeton University, US. Russian was his language of specialisation at IFS and the Indian embassy in Moscow his first overseas posting. He was Under Secretary in the External Ministry on the East Europe desk (1991-92) before moving to Berlin as the First Secretary. He has also performed wide ranging roles in World Bank. — TNS
