The Gujarat High Court today sentenced BJP MLA Jayrajsinh Jadeja and his two aides to life imprisonment in a 13-year-old murder case.
Jayrajsinh Jadeja, MLA from Gondal in Rajkot, and his aides Amarjitsinh Jadeja and Mahendrasinh Rana were guilty of murdering BJP worker Nilesh Rayani in 2004. The court directed the trio to surrender before September 30.
The BJP MLA and 15 others were chargesheeted in the murder case of Nilesh Raiyani. In 2011, a lower court had acquitted Jayrajsinh in the case.
However, of the 16 accused, it had found Samirkhan Pathan guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Pathan and the state government approached the high court against the lower court’s verdict. The division Bench of HC judges Akil Kureshi and Biren Vaishnav today reversed the lower court’s judgment and acquitted 13, including Pathan.
