Suspected LTTE men held 

Seven Sri Lankan nationals, suspected to be having links with the Sri Lankan LTTE group, were arrested from the city's Chandi Chowk area on Sunday. Some incriminating papers and maps of several important places in Kolkata were seized from the accused. The men were travelling without valid papers and had booked rooms in a hotel. They have been remanded in five-day police custody. TNS

6 die in Bengal hooch 

Six persons, including a woman, died and 10 others were taken ill after they consumed illicit liquor at Radhaballavpur in South 24 Parganas district, an official said on Sunday. Sixteen people had consumed the liquor from a shop in the village under Kultali police station on Saturday night. Of them two died on the spot and as many in the nearby Nimpith hospital, an official said. PTI

Cop held for threatening DGP

A Bihar police constable was arrested for allegedly sending threatening text messages to Rajasthan Director General of Police and top police officers of other states with bomb blasts to take revenge for hanging Ajmal Kasab and Yakub Memon. Patna SSP Vikas Vaibhav said the constable, Shah Ujair, is a resident of Sigori village in Paliganj block of Patna district and was posted in adjoining Jehanabad district. — PTI
