Killer fields of Kannur are in news again. Barely two days after a CPM worker was killed, allegedly by RSS activists in Pinayari — the native village of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan — a BJP worker was today brutally hacked to death in the same area by “goons of the CPM”, or so the BJP charged.
Launching a direct attack against Vijayan and his government, BJP spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao claimed “political violence heaped by the Left party had increased in the past five months because it is jittery over the BJP gaining ground in the state”.
“The gruesome killing of BJP karyakarta Ramith is the latest example of public demonstration of political violence by CPM goons in Kannur — CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s constituency,” he said. When told that Ramith is believed to have been killed in retaliation to the killing of CPM worker Mohanan, Rao said all cases of violence should be probed.
“If the CPM levels allegations, they don’t automatically become true. The youth was attacked earlier also. If there has been any other incidence of violence, conduct probe and bring the guilty to book. But in no other place in the country, there is this level of political violence. The situation in Kannur needs to be highlighted. The CM cannot ensure law and order in his own village. He should hand over the case to the CBI,” he said.
Ramith’s father Uthaman was also a victim of political violence, allegedly at the hand of CPM workers, as per reports. RSS-BJP leaders claim they are being targeted because they are becoming relevant in the Marxist stronghold. “Left workers cannot tolerate anyone deserting their party,” they claim. However, as per CPM leaders, their workers are attacked because they believe in protecting minority communities, including Muslims.
