New Delhi, December 4
Rebel Congress leader Shehzad Poonawalla described December 4 as a black day in Congress history and said he would fight dynastic perpetuation from Delhi to Amethi.
“Rahul Gandhi is not Congress president but has been anointed like a Mughal king... A party which was headed by Maulana Azad has been reduced to a proprietorship. It's a black day because the person who lacks merit and has been a perpetual under-performer has been promoted for every failure at the behest of a dynastic system led by his mother and Congress president. Today, some dynastic cheerleaders claimed before the nominations ended at 3 pm that Rahul was the Congress president. This is because everyone knows his coronation was fixed," he tweeted.
Responding to Poonawalla, Congress leader Mani Shakkar Aiyar drew parallels between the Mughal era and current times. He said unlike in Mughal rule, people can now contest elections. "When Shah Jahan came after Jahangir, was there an election? When Aurangzeb after Shah Jahan, was there an election? No. But times have changed now. In a democracy, elections are held and anyone can contest," Aiyar said.
