One person was killed and three others injured after the compressor of an air conditioner exploded at ONGC’s Dehradun plant today.

The incident took place around 11am. The deceased has been identified as Mahipal Thapa and the injured were Chandra Sagar Uniyal, Sunil Choudhary and Vipin Kumar. All were working as contractual employees.

The condition of Vipin is stated to be serious and he has been admitted to Max Hospital, whereas Chandra Sagar and Sunil are undergoing treatment at ONGC hospital.

ONGC Contractual Employees’ Union president Sandeep Ramola said many contractual employees hired by the company were being forced to do odd jobs such as loading and unloading. “We will meet on Monday to decide on future course of action,” he said.

Meanwhile, ONGC has announced Rs 5 lakh as ex gratia to the deceased’s family and also assured all possible help to the injured.
