Bombay IIT student from Rohtak ends life

Jitesh Sharma (21), a student of chemical engineering in IIT Bombay committed suicide Saturday night by consuming poison. Sharma was suffering from depression and was undergoing counselling, the police said.

In his suicide note left in English and Hindi, Sharma said he missed his family and his hometown, Rohtak in Haryana. The Powai police said he was unable to keep up with the pressure of studies and could not clear several examinations from past semesters.

In the note, Sharma regretted joining the chemical engineering course of IIT. The police said Sharma left his hostel on Saturday and entered the terrace of another hostel where he apparently consumed a vial of sodium azyde.

Sharma's body was found by some students at the institute. The boy's remains have been sent for post mortem.
