Ludhiana, March 30
Business tycoon Abhey Oswal died of heart failure at 67 in Russia's Moscow late on Tuesday night.
Son of late Lala Vidya Sagar Oswal and brother of leading industrialists Jawahar Oswal, Jangi Lal Oswal and Neelam Oswal, Abhey Oswal had gone to a research centre in Moscow where he was to launch some medicines his company had developed. Two of his staffers had reportedly accompanied him.
Originally from Ludhiana, Oswal moved to Delhi in 1990. He began to do deal in fertilisers and started two units in Uttar Pradesh and Orissa, but shut them down in 2005 to focus on the healthcare market.
He also forayed into real estate and had three upcoming residential projects in Ludhiana.
Oswal had been known to be dedicated to developing life-saving medicines, particularly for cancer and diabetes. He also personally oversaw work at Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital in Ludhiana.
He is survived by his wife Aruna Oswal and two sons — Pankaj Oswal, Shaiendra Oswal and a daughter Shalu Jindal, who is married to former Parliamentarian and leading industrialist from Haryana, Navin Jindal.
His body will be brought to Delhi later by Wednesday night and will be cremated on Thursday.
