CET on cards for Group B, C jobs
New Delhi, December 3
Aiming to ensure level-playing field for aspirants, the Centre has mooted an idea to set up a specialised recruitment agency for conducting a single examination— Common Eligibility Test (CET)—for recruiting Group B, C employees in the government.
Sources in the government said the move would be on the lines of the UPSC, which conducts the Civil Services Examination annually to select IAS, IFS, IPS and IFoS officers, besides several other Group A and B (gazetted) services.
Besides the UPSC, there exists the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), which does recruitment for Central Government departments, mainly to select staff for Group B (non-gazetted) posts.
Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said the move was aimed at providing a level-playing field for all regardless of their background, besides being cost-effective both for those appearing in examination and the government agencies conducting it.
The ministry has sought response from departments of government of India, state governments/Union territories administrations and public/stakeholders”, particularly candidates aspiring to join government/public sector jobs within one month.
At present, candidates seeking government jobs have to appear for multiple separate examinations conducted by various recruiting agencies for posts, for which similar eligibility criterion have been prescribed. — TNS
