Congress general secretary incharge of east Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday demanded a reaction from senior BJP leaders for the advertisement in which rape and murder accused Bangarmau BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar appears with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah among others.
In a series of tweets, Priyanka said: “The CBI has submitted its report. The Supreme Court has lashed out at him, but the rape accused continues to reside in the hearts of BJP people.”
“Senior BJP leaders’ photos appear with him, Would any reaction come on this?” she asked.
In another tweet, she hit out at the Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath government, considering the withdrawal of around 20 criminal cases against another BJP MLA from Sardhana (Meerut) Sangeet Som, who is also an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots.
BJP MLA Som was arrested under the National Security Act and other sections of the IPC and IT Act on September 21, 2013, by the Akhilesh Yadav government for allegedly sharing a fake video on the social media.
The video was from Sialkot in Pakistan showing a mob lynching two youths. It was morphed and posted on the social media in September 2013 claiming it to be of the two Hindu boys killed at Kawal in Muzaffarnagar. It was widely circulated causing communal violence in Muzaffarnagar.
On November 7, 2013, the state government had revoked NSA against Som and another BJP legislator Suresh Rana. They were released from jail on personal bonds. Rana is now a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government.
