Leg spinner Amit Mishra (32) was today arrested on a complaint lodged by a woman for allegedly physically assaulting and abusing her at a hotel room here last month. He was later released on bail.
Mishra, who has played 15 Tests since his debut in 2008, was arrested after three hours of questioning and released on bail later, DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil said.
Complying with a summon issued by the police last week after he was booked for the charges based on the complaint by the woman, Mishra appeared before the police.
Mishra is part of the Indian Test squad for first two matches against visiting South Africa, the first will be played in Mohali on November 5.
The woman had earlier said she had decided to withdraw her complaint but did not do so. She had approached the police on September 27 and filed a complaint saying she knew Mishra for the past three years and the alleged incident took place in a hotel room where the cricketer was staying when he came to the city along with the Indian team for a training camp last month. The complainant had said she went to Mishra’s room in his absence. Mishra came there and they had a heated argument following which, she alleged, the cricketer assaulted and abused her.
