Delhi HC ex-CJ Rohini to head OBC panel

New Delhi, October 2

Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Justice G Rohini will head a five-member commission to examine the sub-categorisation of the Other Backward Classes. The commission will have to present its report within 12 weeks on assumption of charge.

The commission will have Dr JK Bajaj as its member along with two ex-officio members in Director, Anthropological Survey of India, and Registrar General and Census Commissioner, and Joint Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, as secretary.

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed the commission under Article 340 and the decision would ensure the more backward among the OBC communities to avail the benefits of reservation, an official announcement said tonight.

Terms of reference include examining extent of inequitable distribution of benefits of quota among castes or communities included in the broad category of OBCs, with reference to such classes included in Central List. — TNS
