Didi pens lyrics of Durga puja theme song

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has composed the theme song for a popular city Durga puja this year. Banerjee said on Monday at a function with organisers of Durga puja committees that the lyrics aimed to bring back the spirit of ‘agomoni’ (traditional Bengali songs invoking the goddess) songs in theme music once again. “I had been asked by Arup (minister Arup Biswas) to compose the song,” she said. Popular singer and Minister of State for Culture Indranil Sen has lent voice to the lyrics. afp

FB helps cops find missing ‘boy’ after 7 yrs 

Hyderabad: A 15-year-old boy who had gone missing from his house here in 2011 has been traced to Mumbai with the help of social networking site Facebook and reunited with his family, a police official said Tuesday. The boy, Sujeeth Kumar Jha, now 23, was picked up by a police team from Mumbai where he was working under a catering contractor. Kumar originally hails from Bihar’s Madhubani district. pti

Relief for man disqualified for having tattoo 

New Delhi: The Central Administrative Tribunal has granted relief to a CISF aspirant who was declared “medically unfit” twice for having a tattoo on his forearm and later due to post-surgery scar for removing the ink. A bench directed the Staff Selection Commission to re-conduct a medical examination of Haryana resident Jagbir and consider him for appointment if the wound had healed. “Aghast” at the SSC act, the CAT said a tattoo is not a medical condition and is not required to be considered for medical examination purposes. pti
