A man said to be mentally unwell is found to have swallowed several metal objects, doctors who operated upon him recently said.
Doctors found keys, rings, nail cutter and even parts of what they said looked like parts of ‘hookah’, an instrument used for smoking flavoured tobacco, in the 24-year-old man’s stomach.
The man was fond of ‘hookah’.
The patient, a resident of Salumber in Udaipur district whom the doctors have refused to identify, was taken to Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital after he had a spell of chronic vomiting and complained of abdominal pain and loss of appetite, Dr DK Sharma, Professor and Head of the RNT Medical College in Udaipur, said on Tuesday.
A CT scan and X-ray revealed metal objects in his intestines. His surgery lasted for about 90 minutes, the doctor said, that the metal objects had caused an ulcer in his abdomen.
The patient was advised to quit smoking and drinking alcohol, Dr Sharma said.
