Ten coaches of the Lokamanya Tilak Terminus-Ernakulum Duronto Express derailed near Sarzora Tunnel between Madgaona and Balli stations in Karwar region in South Goa today. No casualties were reported.
The Railways later announced cancellation and diversion of some trains on the Konkan route following the derailment.
“Ten coaches of the train derailed at 6.30 am near Balli station. No passengers were injured,” Konkan Railway Corporation Limited spokesman Baban Ghatge said.
The train had left the Lokmanya Tilak Terminal in Mumbai and was heading towards Ernakulum.
The trains which have been diverted include Okha-Ernakulam Express (16337), Mumbai CST- Ernakulam Premium Special Train (02065), Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Central Weekly Superfast Express (22634) via Alappuzha and Pune-Ernakulam Express (11097).
“Full refund is being arranged by the Konkan Railways for those passengers of Duronto Express who would not like to continue their journey,” a statement said, adding relief to passengers and restoration of the track was on.
Passengers and their families had been requested by Konkan Railway to call 022 - 27587939 for enquiry about the status of the restoration of the track and resumption of traffic on the route. — Agencies
