Ex-Delhi HC judge to head OBC Commission

Former Delhi High Court judge G Rohini to head the Other Backward Castes (OBC) Commission.
President Ram Nath Kovind appointed the commission to examine sub categorisation of Other Backward Classes under Article 340 of the constitution.
The commission will have Centre for Policy Studies Director J.K.Bajaj, as well as director of Anthropological Survey of India Vinay Kumar Srivastava and Registrar General and Census Commissioner Sailesh as ex-officio members. Joint secretary, Department of SJ&E, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, will be the secretary of the Commission.
“This decision would ensure more backward among the OBC communities to avail the benefits of reservation,” a press statement announcing the commission said.
The commission will have survey distribution of reservation benefits of castes already included in the OBC category mentioned in the central list; decide parameters and mechanism for making subcategories; and identify other castes that could be included under the category.
The commission is required to present their report to the President within twelve weeks of the chairperson taking charge of the commission.
