Amruta, wife of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, has become a latest victim of trolls by hardline hindutva elements for participating in an event that promoted charity during Christmas season.
Amruta had earlier this week posted a message on Twitter posing with children for the “Be Santa” campaign of a radio station. “...collect gifts from people -for poor children, to bring smiles to their faces during this Christmas … Feel the joy -as best way to multiply your happiness is by sharing it with others,” she said in her message.
Within hours, right-wing trolls took on her. “Ma’m..you are leading Christian missionaries agenda of converting hapless Hindus and giving them a platform...sad to see @Dev_Fadnavis and @BJP4India to be a mute spectator. Give gifts to kids, why promote Christianity in garb of Santa and Christmas,” read a message.
Another user called Amruta “vulture(s) showing love for the poor, so you can convert them.” Amruta hit back at the ones trolling her. “Love, sharing and empathy have no religion.” She added that she was a proud Hindu and was doing her best to unite all the Indians.
