Amid the growing chorus for building of Ram temple, Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath on Tuesday renamed Faizabad district as “Ayodhya” on the eve of Diwali, which commemorates Lord Ram’s return home after 14 years in exile.
Speaking at a function, CM Yogi said: “Ayodhya is the symbol of our honour, pride and prestige. Ayodhya gets its significance from Bhagwan Ram. From today, this district would be known as Ayodhya.”
Faizabad is the third district after Mughalsarai (renamed Deen Dayal Upadhyay Nagar) and Allahabad (renamed Prayagraj) to have been rechristened by the Yogi government. Ayodhya was until now a municipality in Faizabad district.
Yogi announced that an airport would come up in Ayodhya and named after Purushottam Bhagwan Ram. Also, a new medical college would be named after Raja Dashrath, father of Lord Ram, said the Chief Minister.
Describing the four-and-a-half-year rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as nothing short of “Ram Rajya”, Yogi listed his development initiatives of creating 36 lakh Jan Dhan bank accounts, toilets, Ayushman Bharat and other schemes for the poor.
“What is the vision of Ram Rajya? Is it not reaching out to the poorest of the poor and alleviating their poverty. This is exactly what the Modi government has achieved during its tenure,” said the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
