Five killed as 2 apartments collapse partly
Bengaluru, July 10
At least five persons were killed and seven injured when two multi-storey residential buildings, one of them under construction, collapsed partly here this morning, the police said.
A few others are feared trapped under the debris and the rescue operations are still underway at the mishap site near Thomas Town here. The accident occurred when the foundation of the four-storey under-construction building gave way. Under the impact, the foundation of the adjacent apartment was also affected and both buildings sank partly, the police said.
Families living in the adjacent building were quickly evacuated. The deceased, mostly migrant labourers from Bihar and Nepal, included a 20-year-old woman and her daughter, the police said.
Seven persons rescued by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police and fire brigade personnel have been hospitalised. Weak foundation was suspected to be the reason behind the mishap, the police added. — PTI
