Ninety-two Indian Police Service probationers passed out of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) here on Saturday.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the 70th passing-out parade on the Academy premises.
Gaush Alam, an IIT graduate from Delhi, received the Prime Minister’s Baton and Home Minister’s revolver from Shah for being declared the best all-rounder. He has been allocated the Telangana cadre.
Of the 92 IPS officers, there were 12 women officers. Eleven officers were foreign nationals, which included three women. Six officers from the Royal Bhutan Police and five from Nepal Police also trained with the IPS officers as part of the 77 RR course.
The probationers have been undergoing rigorous training since December 2017.
According to the Director of SVPNPA, Abhay, 68 IPS probationers hold MBBS and engineering degrees.
Of the 92 IPS probationers, 14 have been allotted the Uttar Pradesh cadre, while eight the West Bengal and another seven the Maharashtra cadre.
Uttar Pradesh has got the highest number of probationers, while one each has been allocated to Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Tripura.
As part of the training, all probationers have to walk for 40 km with a 10 kg load on their back and a 5 kg rifle in their hands.
“The rigorous physical training also includes a 16-km run apart from other outdoor activities,” Abhay said.
One probationer, who failed to complete the 16-km run, had to re-do it before he was cleared. The training comprises 42 weeks of basic training, followed by district practical training in respective cadres for 28 weeks and 13 week Phase-2 training at the academy.
Many probationers are from a humble background and have overcome various odds to get into the service.
Richa Tomar from Uttar Pradesh has been allotted the Rajasthan cadre. She is the daughter of a farmer and has a one-year-old son, who she left with her mother-in-law to complete the training.
Palash Chandra is the son of a construction worker from Odisha. He has been allotted the West Bengal cadre. Even Gaush Alam, who was declared the best all-rounder, is the son of an army subedar, who died while Alam was young.
Till date, the National Police Academy has had only one director from Punjab cadre (Waryam Singh) and two from Haryana (PA Rosha and VN Rai).
The probationers who have been allocated the Punjab cadre are Tushar Gupta, Abhimanyu Rana, Dalip Kumar and Aditya. Those allocated the Haryana cadre are Pooja Vashisht, Siddhant Jain, Nikita Khattra and Hamendra Kumar Meena.
Himachal Pradesh will have three women probationers in Charu Sharma, Ilma Feroz and Shrishty Pandey.
