Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill, quelled strong challenge against Government High School, Sherpur Kalan, and emerged champions in the girls’ section on the penultimate day of the 5th Sub Junior Ludhiana District Baseball Tournament being held at Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town here today.
The final match witnessed a keen and prolonged tussle between the two teams, as they fought a fierce battle. Both teams played like well-oiled machines and gave little room to the opponents to settle down as they remained on an edge and eventually Gill school players won it narrowly (22-19).
In the match for the hard-line cup, Guru Nanak Secondary School, Janta Nagar, and BCM Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, fought a pitched battle before the former came out victories (7-5) to secure the bronze medal.
Later, matches in the boy’s section were conducted in which 16 teams are vying for top honours.
In the first match, BCM Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, scored an easy victory (6-1) over Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School, Dholewal.
The second match was played between Government Senior Secondary School, Kum Kalan, and BCM Club in which the former romped home victorious (10-8).
In other matches, hosts Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, proved good for Ramgarhia Co-Education High School, Partap Nagar, whom they blanked 10-2; Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School, Janta Nagar, outnumbered (7-1) BCM Senior Secondary School, Sector 32; DAV Public School beat (7-2) Sai Public School; Government Senior Secondary School, Kasabad, got the better of Khalsa Baseball Club (5-2); and Government High School, Sherpur Kalan beat DAV Club (11-4).
