Guwahati, December 12
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will be Congress' chief ministerial candidate in the 2016 Assam state assembly elections, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said here on Saturday.
Gandhi, who arrived in Assam on a two-day visit on Friday, was speaking during a meeting with editors and senior journalists at the Brahmaputra Guest House here.
He said the party has full confidence in the leadership of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and the chief minister and only they would decide about any alliance with any political parties in Assam.
Gandhi also interacted with a group of women entrepreneurs of the state and addressed his party leaders.
He is scheduled to leave for Barpeta district, 90 km from Guwahati, to participate in a seven kilometre 'pad yatra' (road show). —IANS
